History of the Valley Local School District
• In 1860, prior to the consolidation of the Valley Township Schools, there were four school districts in Lucasville and the surrounding area. They were the Johnson School north of Lucasville at Clifford, Lucasville School on West Street, Cockrell’s Run School, and Marsh School, south of Lucasville.
• In 1878, the Miller’s Run school was built, creating the fifth school district in the Lucasville area. During this time, Jefferson Township was served by the Blue Run School, the Flatwoods School and the Munn School.
• Around 1900 the five Valley Township schools consolidated into the Valley Township School District and the first central school came into existence.
• In 1911 a new 12 room high school was constructed and it continued to serve as part of the Valley Elementary School until 1993.

• In 1949, a new addition was added to Valley Elementary school and in combination with the original structure built in 1911 continued to serve the students of the district until 1993.
• 1956 saw the building of a new high school east of Lucasville to handle the increasing enrollment that resulted from the construction of the Uranium Enrichment plant at Piketon. This school was built using federal funds and given to the people of the school district by the United States Government. In 1957 a new gymnasium and parking facilities were created using a local bond levy.
• In 1993 the District opened two new schools as a result of a local levy and funding from the Ohio School Facilities Commission. Valley Elementary opened as a K-5 facility with an enrollment of 600 students, including those students who formerly attended Glendale School. Valley High School, grades 9-12 opened and houses approximately 350 students.
• In 1995, the old high school building originally constructed in 1956 was extensively remodeled and re-opened its doors as Valley Middle School serving grades 6-8.

• In 2003 a new synthetic “ProTurf” playing surface was installed in the new Valley Indians Stadium.

The addition includes a new computer lab and 3 new science labs. As a result of this expansion the Valley Middle School now serves grades 5-8 and the Valley Elementary School serves students grades K-4.
