Valley Indians Sports Medicine

Each year more than 150 student-athletes at Valley High and Valley Middle Schools participate in interscholastic athletics. With so many young people participating each year, injuries and illnesses are a "fact of life".

The sports medicine facilities at Valley High School rival those of any high school and even some small colleges.

The members of the Valley Sports Medicine Team provide treatment, prevention and rehabilitation care to all the athletic teams during the year. This is provided under the direction of our team physician, the athletes' family physicians or one of many medical specialists.

Our Head Athletic Trainer is Michael Ritz, LAT. Mr. Ritz is assisted by student athletic trainers from the Athletic Training Program at Shawnee State University. These students are assigned to our school during clinical rotations and receive credit for their work. A program for high school students to serve as student aides is also in place and gives the high school student an introduction to athletic training.

Valley's training room is equipped with the most modern modalities for treating injuries. The room is equipped to provide ice treatment, hydrocollator therapy, whirlpool treatment and electrical stimulation therapy. Equipment is added on an ongoing basis to provide the most up to date treatment modalities. A satellite training room is located in the field house for use by football and soccer prior to games, practices or during the contests.
