Freshman Class Community Service Project at Sierra's Haven
The Freshman Class conducted a community service project for Sierra's Haven in early May.  Sierra's Haven located in Portsmouth is a shelter of volunteers working to find adoptable and loving homes for animals.  The class officers asked high school students to bring in items from Sierra's Haven's wish list found on their website.  The class officers took the donated items to Sierra's Haven on May 20th, and volunteered by visiting and brushing the cats and kittens.  They also spent time with the puppies in the new Puppy Pavillion building.  They also got to see Dr. Gail Counts, DVM, perform spay surgery on a dog!  She talked to them about veterinary medicine, and what they do at Sierra's Haven in helping the animals.  We want to thank all of the students who donated to this great cause!  We also want to thank Sierra's Haven and Dr. Gail Counts for allowing our class officers to work with animals, and get to spend time seeing her in surgery.

Portsmouth Bypass Tour
Engineering Teacher, Craig Tackett, and his Engineering students of
Valley High School were able to tour the new Portsmouth Bypass (SR 823).
These students toured the highway construction, parts of the road that are
already paved, and some of the Engineer's Office. This opportunity allowed
them to see real world applications of engineering topics that are discussed
in class. Along with this, they now have the experience to say they have been
to one of the largest road projects in Ohio history before it was open!
